A small hill with thick forest of Western Ghats separates Melinkoppa and Garaga.
MELINKOPPA, (the place where I live) a small village of Thirthahalli Shimoga, which lies at the bottom of the hill and Garaga at bottom of the other side of the hill. The distance between two place via forest is around 4 kms. One of the less touched and less exploited forests area with abundant variety of trees and plants. Steep edges, huge trees, slippy wild paths are common features throughout this stretch. Sun rays hardly touch the ground at most of the places in this forest.
Yesterday, the Christmas day off was very well spent in the midest of the forest. Our very enthusiastic group of 25 members with all age group from 6 years to 65 years walked more than 9 kms through the forest (to and fro Melinkoppa). The elevation is more than 800 meters. The Whole stretch is so cool and shady that carrying hats and sunglasses were mere waste. Though we did nt get to see any wild animals while trekking , we found fresh evidence of their presence. Some of us had good fall. We were lost for some time in the forest too. Posing for pictures, taking selfie, goofing were default factors as always. It was an awesome and memorable experience.
